I’ve been wanting one of these bad boys for a while, but I finally got around to it yesterday; registering a .su domain. Of course you’re thinking, what is .su? It’s the CC-TLD assigned to the Soviet Union on September 19th, 1990, shortly before its collapse a year later.

Despite the Soviet Union clearly not existing today, the domain is actually still about, and in 2001, the domain managers started accepting new registrations, which is apparently upsetting ICANN just a teeny bit (who want to get rid of it). Problem is, and I’ve just contributed to the problem, it’s still recieving active registrations.

Fun bit of history for you, and without further ado, I present my new domain (which just points to my blog while I think of something to do with it);

Unfortunately, I’m not the only one. Significantly better known that myself is, Andrew James Stockdale, lead singer of the Australian band Wolfmother (who are also quite good). By sheer coincedence, we also actually share a the same middle name.

Other people with the same name are the photographer Andrew Stockdale, which as far as I gather is American. Being a photographer myself, this does further cloud who is who. Finally, there’s the late Vice-Admiral James Stockdale, highly decorated US Naval Officer.

As a result, my individuality on the internet is kind of limited. But with a bit of luck and decent SEO, I can change that, as after all, who you are is effectively controlled by search engines, Google in particular. It’s not easy, but…
